The position of Registered Psychologist is in our Child and Adolescent Therapeutic Services (CATS) Program. The CATS Program provides comprehensive mental health services to youth who are living with their birth parents as part of the Family Maintenance Program of Alameda County's Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). In addition, CATS offers services to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland patients whose special medical needs and concurrent mental health issues threaten to overwhelm family resources, placing them at risk of DCFS involvement. CATS clinicians take a family-centered approach, integrating individual and family therapy with advocacy and case management. Most services are provided at the family's home or at the youth's school.
The Registered Psychologist provides psychological services, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, including the application of psychological principles, methods and procedures of understanding, predicting, and influencing behavior, such as the principles pertaining to learning, perception, motivation, emotions, and interpersonal relationships; methods and procedures of interviewing, counseling, psychotherapy, behavior modification; and administering, and interpreting tests of mental abilities, aptitudes, interests, attitudes, personality characteristics, emotions, and motivations. The application of these principles and methods includes, but is not restricted to: diagnosis, prevention, treatment and amelioration of psychological problems and emotional and mental disorders of children and families
Minimum Education: Doctorate degree in psychology, educational psychology or in educational with the field of specialization in counseling psychology or educational psychology Graduation from a regionally accredited doctoral program, including a pre-doctoral internship including at least 30% clinical work with children, adolescents, or family patients
Certification/Licensure: Registered with the California Board of Psychology (Registration valid for 30 months and is non-renewable)
Minimum Experience: Experience working with children and families and with a culturally diverse population. To have completed 1500 post-doctoral hours of supervised clinical experience prior to employment as a Registered Psychologist at Children's Hospital Oakland.
Knowledge/Skills: Normal and atypical child development Child, adult, and family assessment Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary setting with diverse group of professional and support staff. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and problem solving skills Ability to work under pressure and to respond effectively to crises.
Position requires: 1) moderate physical activity such as sitting, traveling, walking, driving, bending, lifting, and computer usage; 2) ability to work independently, organize tasks, problem solve, make decisions, and handle multiple priorities; 3) interpersonal skills with co-workers and with client families in varied settings.
