li Monitor current regulations, legislation and case law impacting areas of oversight covered or issued by state agencies. /li li Advise on, and draft comments in response to, new rules or regulations issued by state agencies. /li li Advocate before regulatory, administrative and legislative bodies. /li li Research and interpret laws, court decisions and other legal authorities in order to render legal opinions to clients. /li li Represent clients in litigated proceedings, including administrative hearings and court proceedings. /li li Advise on, and assist in required reporting for, compliance with agency-issued rules and regulations. /li li Defend clients in enforcement actions pursued by state agencies. /li /ul

li Experience in practice and procedure before California State agencies (public utilities, air, energy, water, transportation, etc.).  Prior staff experience at a California agency is helpful, but not required. /li li Familiarity with energy issues is highly preferred, including experience with some or all of the following:  Ratemaking / rate setting; rulemaking; siting and certification of new infrastructure; administrative appeals; compliance with air quality and greenhouse emission standards. /li li California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”) familiarity. /li li Additional background in environmental law and/or in water rights law is a plus, though not required. /li /ul
