We are currently seeking a Reinsurance Specialist I/II to join our Individual Disability Insurance (IDI) team. The Reinsurance Specialist I and II roles require strong team work and collaboration, as these positions will work with various departments. Additionally, top candidates will need to have strong analytical, organizational and math skills.


Helps administer all transactions (reinsurance premiums, claims, and new or amended cessions) based on Individual Disability Insurance s (IDI) reinsurance treaties to ensure timely and accurate payment and receipt of reinsurance funds. Assist team in reinsurance month end financial reporting.

Work with Reinsurance Specialists II to help maintain reinsurance systems, procedures and documentation to support this important risk management function.

Calculate new or amend reinsurance cessions within a one month turnaround on all new or altered coverages (working with Underwriting, New Business or Inforce) on the insured or policy level according to treaty specifications. Work with Actuarial to implement new treaties.

Create, validate and send monthly reinsurance premium bills (self-administered) and monthly reinsurance claim bills. Send any supporting documentation to reinsurers as needed.

Process all IDI reinsurance receipts and disbursements in LAWSON according to Corporate Financial Service standards. Document transactions and procedures to SOX standards. Support internal, external or vendor audits annually. Provide NAIC Schedule S data annually.


Education: Minimum High School Diploma; Bachelor's Degree or in process preferred.


* Ability to perform detailed mathematical calculations and document results

* Ability to understand disability income coverages and set-ups

* Ability to learn principles of reinsurance

* Familiarity with basic accounting and ledger entries

* Ability to learn ID3 and various IDI in-house systems

* Familiarity with Microsoft Office

Professional Certification Required: FLMI desirable
