Job Description
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
We are looking for a Research Associate I/II for the Learning from Human Genetics initiative within the Program in Medical and Population Genetics at the Broad Institute. Our goal is to develop and apply methods to understand the function of genes/genetic loci identified in genome-wide association studies for Crohn's disease (CD) and type 1 diabetes (T1D).
In particular, the research will focus on:
1) elucidation of the roles of genes/genetic variants in CD and T1D; 2) functional mapping of pathways involved in CD and T1D based on recent discoveries in human genetics; 3) discovery and characterization of conserved functional elements within disease-associated signaling pathways; and 4) characterization of the systems biology of mucosal immunity as it pertains to CD and T1D.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
- Conduct various bench level experiments including tissue culture, microscopy, RNA interference, protein and RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, real-time PCR, Western blot analysis, generation and sub-cloning of plasmid constructs, and mouse colony maintenance (e.g., genotyping, limited husbandry).
- Maintain detailed laboratory notebook, track samples, and update results in databases.
- Attend team meetings to share results and to plan projects and experiments.
- Assist with maintenance of laboratory records and compliance with safety and biohazard guidelines.
- Contribute toward the publication of scholarly reports.
- Participate as a vital member of a team of scientists that aims to foster a culture of scientific excellence.
Requirements:
- Creative and highly motivated individuals who want to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research environment
- B.S. with two years experience or M.S. in cell biology, immunology, or molecular biology
- Experience in the following techniques is a plus:
gene targeting, lymphocyte biology, primary cell culture, and cell/molecular biology techniques
Broad will not offer visa sponsorship for this opportunity
