The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), invites applications for a Research Associate II position in Physical Oceanography. The position will involve close collaboration with scientists at RSMAS and the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML).
The incumbent is expected to work with observational oceanographers and software developers at AOML and at CIMAS. Specifically, the candidate will work for the US Argo Data Assembly Center, which collects, processes and distributes data from profiling floats. The incumbent will design and implement a data processing system using modern and more flexible practices to replace a functioning legacy system. Duties include but are not limited to: (1) the design, development and maintenance of software; (2) writing documentation that facilitates the use and maintenance of operational data processing systems; (3) maintaining and updating of the web pages of the US Argo Data Assembly Center.
Required qualifications include: a Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, oceanography, physics, mathematics or related fields and at least two years of relevant experience. Necessary skills include software design and development for automatic data processing systems on computers with Unix/Linux. Incumbents also need to know how to maintain and update web pages. Incumbents must have excellent written and oral communication skills in order to communicate with a diverse group of people in a large collaborative project.
