Applaud Medical, a venture-backed medical device company, is seeking one or more highly motivated individual(s) to join its R&D group as a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate. The Research Associate/Senior Research Associate will play a critical role in the development and validation of Applaud s products for treating kidney stone disease and other human health conditions. This position is located in the QB3@953 life sciences incubator in San Francisco s Mission Bay district.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Execute standard synthetic chemistry methods for lipid- and protein-based compounds. Carry out synthetic chemistry protocols, including extractions, distillations, anhydrous/inert conditions, and chromatography. Carry out HPLC, mass spec, and other characterization methods. Perform other lab duties such as preparing stock solutions, assisting with lab inventory, and lab maintenance.

Follow synthetic protocols and analytical techniques to systematically synthesize and characterize synthetic molecules, including phospholipids and glycolipids.

Carry out data analysis and interpretation using scientific software applications and tools. Diagnose and recommend preliminary solutions relating to equipment, experimental procedures, software, etc.

Establish and/or optimize scale-up procedures for robust and timely delivery of formulations for validation testing.

Test material formulations incorporating diverse gases, lipids, and polymers, with emphasis on stable complex formation, diffusion effects, and binding affinities for constituents of tissue and other biological materials.

Provide input to research reports, journals and/or articles, including occasional literature searches.

Work closely with engineers, biophysicists, and other team members on optimizing physicochemical processes in biological systems to achieve desired medical outcomes.

Support synthetic chemistry-related and material science aspects of product development and manufacturing.

Prepare detailed technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analysis for general documentation and product transfers.

Keep a detailed laboratory notebook.

Engage in multiple R&D activities, including troubleshooting issues, writing procedures, R&D laboratory instrument maintenance, etc.

Actively participate in maintaining the biochemistry laboratory space in compliance with safety regulations.
