Research Associate/Sr. Research Associate, Caperna


Caperna, a Moderna Venture, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Associate/Sr. Research Associate its Personalized Cancer Vaccine (PCV) development programs. We are looking for an individual with experience in the management of clinical samples and biomarker analysis in clinical trials and a solid background in laboratory research and assay development. The successful candidate will thrive in a proactive can-do culture and enjoy working across the full range of research activities for the ground-breaking, mRNA-based PCVs in addition to being a highly-effective team player and terrific communicator and collaborator.


* Performance in vitro assays (ELISA, FACS, reporter systems, functional T-cell assays, etc.)

* Standard cell culture support, including primary and transformed cells culture and primary immune cell isolation from tissue and blood (human/murine)

* General laboratory assistance including lab equipment maintenance, preparation of reagents, and the ordering and receiving of lab supplies

* Isolation and characterization of tumor and various immune cell populations

* Closely collaborate with other members within the research group and broadly with departments throughout the company

* Clinical sample lifecycle management

* Detailed record keeping and ability to communicate findings


* BS with 3 years of experience in biology, biochemistry, or other related discipline

* Hands on experience with mammalian cell culture (cell lines and primary cells)

* Hands on experience with in vivo models, tissue harvestings and handling of primary cells

* Hands on experience with the ELISpot and Flow Cytometry assays and analysis

* Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to work independently and effectively in a highly dynamic environment

* Approaches and techniques including mechanical and enzymatic digestion of tumor samples, density gradient separation, electronic and bead-based sorting, multi-parameter flow cytometry, protein quantification by ELISA/MSD, RNA extraction

* Knowledge of basic statistics and statistic software


* Experience with immuno-phenotying and immune cell-based functional assays (such as lymphocyte proliferation, activation, cytokine release)

* Experience in immuno-oncology, immunology, oncology, immune-checkpoint modulation and/or cell biology understanding of immune-mediated mechanisms in cancer

* In vivo experience in mouse models (e.g. immuno-oncology, infection, inflammatory diseases) and hands-on experience with collection and processing of various rodent tissues for phenotypical analysis
