RESEARCH DIRECTOR, INFECTIOUS DISEASE

The Project Director provides support to the Principal Investigator in the maintenance and integration of two large, integrated, complex federally funded research projects. One project (PROTECT) involves implementation of an infection control intervention and assessment in 40 Chicago-area healthcare facilities over a 3 year period. The second project comprises 4 multicenter protocols that Rush will lead across multiple CDC Prevention Epicenters, 4 multicenter protocols that Rush will participate in as a subcontractor, and 7 single center protocols. Responsibilities include setting task expectations and structure for the protocol staff and research assistants, recruiting study participants and study sites, assuring retention of participants and sites to the parent studies, and serving as a contact person for study participants and their healthcare providers, research coordinators and Investigators.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*

Has sufficient content expertise in healthcare-associated infection prevention research to provide substantive assistance with protocol development and data analysis.
*

Implement complex, multifaceted, multicenter study interventions and monitors study progress with minimal oversight.
*

Ensures adherence to all aspects of the study protocol. Serves as a resource person to the study staff including coordinators, Investigators, clinicians and research assistants.
*

Develops and maintains an organized, well-labeled regulatory and patient-source file(s) for study materials (e.g., participant charts, protocols, visit forms, correspondence, and other pertinent material).
*

Attends Participates in research and training meetings and trains other staff members in appropriately following the protocol procedures.
*

Assists the Principal Investigator and Research Study Coordinators in following all study participants/study sites and in the recruitment of additional participants/study sites.
*

Schedules the participants and/or sites for assessments by the protocol staff.
*

Directs staff for several research protocols, including recruiting and onboarding of new hires, setting task expectations and structure for all protocol staff; handling payroll, scheduling and PTO requests.
*

Responsible for data completion and organization and for resolving queries.
*

Maintains systems for participation and site tracking and correspondence; creates and interprets reports regarding progress of study.
*

research coordinators and assistants with auditing of study procedures.May administer neuropsychological and physical function testing to participants as needed by the protocol.

May collect blood/culture samples and assists in processing samples for further storage, testing, and distribution.
*

Assists research coordinators, research assistants and Principal Investigators in ensuring the success of the CDC Prevention and Intervention Epicenter II and PROTECT portfolio of studies.
*

Performs other duties as determined by the Principal Investigator.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

*

Expertise in healthcare-infection prevention
*

At least 5 years of experience in the development, implementation, monitoring and analysis of multicenter healthcare-associated infection prevention research projects
*

Experience in multicenter culture surveillance for antibiotic-resistant organisms
*

College degree required/ Masters preferred
*

Proficiency in word processing and computer generated documents/reports required; proficiency in Microsoft Access or Excel.
*

Knowledge of data recording and procedures in clinical and epidemiologic studies.
*

Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, and problem solving skills required
*

Excellent organizational skills and ability to use one s time efficiently with only minimal direction required
*

Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
*

Must be responsible and self-motivated
*

Some off-site travel required. Access to an automobile in good working condition required
