In this role, you will be part of our global corporate research team that is dedicated to developing a more sustainable approach to silicon chemistry. As a member of this highly visible team you will be responsible for collaborating with both internal and external scientists and be responsible for increasing our fundamental understanding of the development of Dow Corning's Chemical products. You will discover new ways to improve our products, reduce the costs with manufacturing our product or increase the throughput or performance of our existing products. As a Research Scientist you will set research direction and lead a small team of engineers and technicians that will investigate both improvements to the carbothermic reduction route to silicon and novel technologies to manufacture silicon that will have the potential to meet the expanding needs for silicon driven by new product applications.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Develop a research program to develop new fundamental understanding around the carbothermic reduction of SiO2 to produce silicon metal driven by key business drivers.
* Develop a research program to investigate alternative technologies and routes to product silicon metal, such as electro-chemistry, metals reduction or novel reductant technology.
* Identify external centers of excellence for sponsored research activities, establish and maintain relationships with such centers.
* Own and develop research program roadmaps and communicate with business stakeholders to ensure support and alignment of the research activities.
* Develop the required lab capabilities to conduct research in these fields.
