Specialist position in the Junior, Assistant, Associate or Full rank is currently available in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) working with Dr. Robert Flavell to develop hyperpolarized 13C and positron emission tomography methods for sensing perturbations in the interstitial microenvironment, including acidic pH and alterations in metal homeostasis. These projects are primed for high-end publication in the near future. The successful applicant will work as part of a collaborative team and have access to a wide range of equipment, including at micro PET/CT scanner, on-site cyclotron, 18F and 11C synthesis modules, hot cells, and liquid scintillation equipment. Additionally, for MR research there is access to multiple polarizers, and a variety of high field NMR systems. A dedicated cell and molecular biology laboratory, fully equipped for biological assays as well as a recently installed state of the art LC-MS system are used for complementary investigations.

Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, social science research methods, or creative activities). Specialists appointed at the Assistant or Associate rank must possess a master s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least five years of experience in the relevant specialization. Specialists appointed at the full rank must possess a PhD degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization. Appointees at the Associate or Full level must have significant record of academic accomplishment including published or in-press publication, and a demonstrated record of University and/or public service. Additionally, appointees at the Associate or Full level will provide considerable independence in planning and execution of research. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in radiochemistry and MR research, some experience in investigations of cells, organs or animal models, and an interest in metabolism, cancer biology, biochemistry, and/or cell physiology. Preferred skills include organic chemistry, radiochemistry, and experience in magnetic resonance or molecular imaging research. Experience in working with animal models and cell line would be helpful. A demonstrated track record of research productivity including publications and references, and independent specialized research is desirable.
