JOB DESCRIPTIONResearch Technologist:
The Research Technologist will be responsible for assisting the team in adhering to protocol requirements of clinical trials run through the Biofluids Unit of the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center. Responsibilities include assembling blood draw kits for research sample collection, conducting ECGs on sponsor provided machines, assisting research phlebotomists in processing blood/urine samples, using handheld scanning device to track samples from acquisition to storage and/or distribution, organizing samples in -80 C freezer, inventorying and sorting samples for shipment to outside institutions and pharmaceutical sponsors.
Applicant should be comfortable working in a fast-paced patient-care environment, as well as in a lab organizing samples on dry ice for storage in -80 C freezers. Job responsibilities will include lifting up to 50 pounds and walking up to 6 city blocks (sometimes multiple times a day) to other parts of the medical center in order to conduct ECGs or collect samples. This position requires patient contact, a high-level of organization, and the ability to perform tasks independently.
Other responsibilities will include helping to set-up and maintain a specimen and protocol tracking database through Microsoft Access or a similar program.
