JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition Description
The CSI Center for Data Driven Discovery (C3D) is focusing its work on novel data management, analysis and curation technologies and is currently looking for a researcher to lead its ontology, provenance and reproducibility work. BNL facilities are creating increasing volumes of data, utilizing complex experimental, observational and computational processes; C3D has been tasked with researching and delivering new approaches to make this data easily accessible and sharable, while providing sufficient information to enable scientific and computational reproducibility. Hereby the scale and velocity of the data, and the complexity of the workflows that created them are particular challenges to be addressed. To address these challenges C3D is looking for an experienced researcher with a strong background in ontology development, provenance models and an interest in reproducibility research, that is used to work with data at extreme scales.
Support the development of suitable metadata and ontology vocabularies to enable data sharing and discovery.
Research novel approaches for high volume provenance capture and its in-situ reduction and analysis.
Research practical applications of provenance to enable reproducibility.
Collaborate on proposals, grants, and publications in the area of algorithm development.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or comparable experience
* At least 10 years of contemporary relevant experience that would yield:
Demonstrated expertise in metadata and ontology development, data accessibility and sharing.
Demonstrated Expertise in provenance capture and analysis
Working knowledge of reproducibility research
Working knowledge of workflows, analytical algorithms and high performance computing systems
A demonstrated record of research, development and scholarly publications
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* PhD in Computer Science or comparable experience.
* Signficant scientific code development skills.
* Provide computational and data science solutions.
Ability to obtain security clearance
