JOB DESCRIPTIONDescription/Job Summary
This position is located in the Lehigh Valley area, approximately 60 miles north of Philadelphia, PA.
The Residential Support Staff Member is responsible to help the people served by Mainstay United to develop the skills necessary to achieve success and satisfaction in the community.
Each person has unique strengths, needs, and preferences that must be considered and supported in all interactions.
Appropriate, effective interactions are based on unconditional positive regard and promote respect and dignity.
Rather than taking care of people, the team s interactions are designed to promote people s abilities to live happily, healthy, and safely in the community.
People have the need and the right to benefit from the full resources the community has to offer.
Duties and Responsibilities
Approach the individuals at all times using positive approaches.
Adhere to program schedules and arrive for all shifts, meetings and trainings promptly.
Instruct and support to reintegration safely into the community.
Ensure safety of individuals by conducting safety checks and evacuation/safety drills. Implement supportive interventions at all times especially moment of crisis such as episodes of self-injurious behavior and aggression.
Accompany and support individuals during community integrated activities and initiate and foster meaningful and lasting interactions with other members of the community.
Provide services to the individuals in whatever setting is necessary including hospitals, day programs, nursing homes and family homes.
Develop resources and activities to promote positive community involvement. Perform duties associated with participation in Individual Support Plans and ensure that program planning is the primary focus within the home.
Assist the team to assess current skill levels and maintain awareness of environmental factors or issues and their impact on the person. Assist the team to generate ideas for programming.
Drive individuals to day program, medical appointments, community outings and other destinations in a safe manner.
Write all documentation in a thorough, accurate and legible manner including but not limited to medication logs, individual logs, goal forms, time sheets, incident reports, injury reports. Administer medications and prescribed therapies safely and accurately
and uphold regulatory standards regarding medical issues.
Adhere to directives and procedures developed by the Team Leader/Program Specialist in a thorough and cooperative manner.
Interact and communicate with co-workers in a respectful, coherent and cooperative manner.
Work within all Mainstay United homes as programmatic need dictates. Successfully participate in training, staff meeting, supervisory sessions and other meeting as required. Ensure that the home and surrounding property is clean and safe by taking the initiative
to report any physical site problems immediately. Manage money and receipts accurately.
Maintain, as a full, part time or on call employee, 24 hours of training within a licensing year (April to April).
Staff must have an understanding and dedication to work with consumers with IDD. Staff must possess a strong work ethic, good interpersonal skills, and be reliable, consistent, flexible and willing to learn creative strategies to support people with disabilities.
Staff must have maturity and sound judgment in order to provide appropriate guidance and intervention during crisis situations.
High School Diploma or equivalency. All staff must have a valid driver s license.
Must be available for yearly training requirements and staff meetings.
