Residential Youth Counselor - ReqCode 1286

Eckerd is seeking live-in Youth Counselors for our NEW Residential Program in Candor, NC. This new program is an educational boarding school, serving youth who are court appointed to the program. The youth live in dorms with electricity and heating/cooling. Counselors must be able to work a minimum shift of 5 concurrent 24 hour periods.

The Youth Counselor/Teacher is a positive, supportive LIVE-IN role model who guides and influences group activities on a consistent basis that enhances the youth's confidence and self-esteem. Youth Counselor/Teachers ensure the progress and welfare of each client and the group through therapeutic and educational programs. Counselors are responsible for staff secure supervision during the morning and evenings, with onsite counselors' quarters in close proximaty during sleeping hours. Responsible for delivering evidenced based practices identified by the Director of Programming to clients.

Bachelor's degree in social or behavioral services, or outdoor recreation specialties required. Will be required to obtain certification as a certified cognitive behavioral group facilitator within one year of employment. Direct child care in a therapeutic/rehabilitative setting preferred. Experience in outdoor recreation preferred. Ability to travel about property, through wilderness terrain. Must be able to pass evaluation of physical restraint techniques and written certification exam, and use approved techniques as needed. Employee must obtain valid driver's license or state identification in the state in which they are employed within 90 days of hire.
