What are the responsibilities of a Retail Client Solutions Executive*
The Retail Client Solutions Executive will be responsible for working directly with one of our strategic retail partners. While activities will vary, the Retail Executive will primarily focus on building a consultative relationship with the retailer, providing innovative solutions, working with large data/analysis, and presenting insights in addition to being accountable for both significant revenue and leadership for a team of over 20 professionals with a variety of subject-matter expertise He/she will have the flexibility, poise and expertise to work with relevance and impact at all client levels, including the C-suite.

It will be important to leverage ecosystem savvy to build a winning and sustainable cross-functional approach to deliver retail thought leadership through continuous research and the implementation of global best practices. It will be essential for this executive to build credibility through deep knowledge of the retail domain and the idiosyncrasies therein to first understand and then to unlock critical client issues. The individual must have a strong understanding of the contemporary issues and needs facing a large, progressive retailer in the execution areas of shopper strategy, store experience, and innovation.

Additionally, this Executive must have the capability to strategically chart the course of IRI s relationships and foster a spirit of inquiry, seeking to understand the needs of our clients. This will be further demonstrated by the successful candidate becoming a trusted change agent to champion solutions by making connections, benchmarking and creating sustainable processes that may be seamlessly replicated across our valued client base. The ideal candidate will ideally become a potential successor for leadership roles within IRI s C-Suite.

* Able to earn the status of strategic partner and trusted advisor, providing unique insights, applying data and tools to business opportunities and supporting solutions

* Uses data to show retailers the impact of key business decisions on their measures

* Becomes the go-to partner as a key resource to the retailer in terms of how to leverage data, insights and tools to achieve business gains

* Leads others to leverage data and information in a way that provides superior knowledge for the retailer as measured by their growth in both sales and profit

Business Planning

* Approaches business planning as a perpetual process, considering both short and long term plans; always considers a complete view of the opportunities and issues, including retailer, shopper, competition and IRI

* Is able to aggregate the total value proposition of IRI to the retailer across multiple practices, products and solutions


* Firmly integrates within the retailer organization as a trusted source of insights, consistently identifies and proactively solves potential execution challenges

* When building plans or strategies, begins with the outcome in mind to ensure desired results are achieved

* Is viewed by senior managers of the retailer and IRI as an expert and true business partner who is responsive to needs and is held accountable for quality strong results

* Has a long term track record of achieving objectives, especially in challenging situations

Leveraging Resources/Collaboration

* Effectively priorities resources across retailer opportunities; successfully leverages expert resources for optimal business results and maximum impact at the retailer

* Thinks and acts like a commercial leader and is expert at organizational capabilities; leverages this knowledge consistently

* Relates well with senior-level leaders both internally and externally; cultivates and earns trusted relationships, effectively communicating across a broad range of issues

* Advances the client company s business results and fluency around the industry through daily coaching, training and mentoring

Negotiating and Reaching Agreement

* Eliminates retailer concern when negotiating by presenting compelling facts and experiences

* Always keeps implementation and impact in mind when attempting to reach agreement

* Creates collaboration between retailers and their organizations that goes beyond the narrowly defined scope of contracted agreements to explore new opportunities to drive incremental value

* Successfully leads challenging cross-functional interactions to deliver value and solve issues

Qualifications and Expertise

In addition to the above skill set, the ideal candidate must possess the following:

* 20+ years of progressive business experience with a strong understanding of manufacturer/retailer issues having worked in one or more of the environments below:

* Retailer ({(} any channel)

* Consumer Packaged Goods

* Brokerage

* A proven track record that demonstrates the ability to leverage existing client relationships and further develop and execute retailer relationship strategies and architect business proposals through leveraging a cross- functional team of service line experts by integrating IRI services and solutions and aligning them with specific business needs

* Demonstrated capability driving C-level engagements across the broad spectrum of retail issues such as retail execution, merchandising, category management, and marketing

* Proven experience maintaining manufacturer s and retailer s perspective in mind at all times; able to think through multiple, divergent paths and understand the implications to the client and IRI

* A track record of creating and leveraging innovative solutions for the retailer with a focus on shopper execution and manufacturer/retailer collaboration

* General management and P&L responsibility with a track record of achieving short- and long-term objectives

* Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree or MBA preferred
