As a member of the SOM Financial and Business Services Unit, provides centralized business services to the School of Medicine which includes the Education, Research and Clinical enterprise. This position provides professional level business services concepts and knowledge to the School of Medicine Organization to resolve complex financial issues. The Analyst will provide creative solutions and efficient and compliant service in the areas of procurement, travel, reimbursements, campus services, and various business services for both internal and external constituents. The Analyst will have primary responsibility for SOM travel and reimbursement programs and may assign work to other team members as appropriate. Projects, plans, coordinates, analyzes and processes travel and reimbursement needs for all faculty, staff, students and various SOM affiliates which accounts to over 1000+ travel reimbursements and 1000+ direct payments (entertainment/reimbursements) annually. Responsible for conducting training sessions for SOM staff, faculty, and students on travel and financial policy and procedure changes. Works with the Director to update travel policies and various business services policies that are implemented across all SOM enterprises. Utilizes independent judgment in making decisions and problem solving. Independently processes a large volume of reimbursements and payables for diverse services (medical, research, and education related) and vendors. Responsible for reporting various types of financial data on including spend on travel, or reimbursements for specific budget categories across over 125 Activities and 500+ fau combinations. Provide support for the SOM Financial Services functions and participate in year-end closing. Expected to function independently with minimal supervision and rely on experience and judgment, as necessary.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Minimum of 2 years of related experience.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making.
Ability to function effectively as a member of a team.
Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
Strong knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems.
Working knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures.
Skills to provide coaching and mentoring to support staff.
Proficiency in the use of spreadsheet and database software.
Experience working in higher education or related enterprise in a Business Office or Business Services capacity
Demonstrated skill in identifying the customer's perspective and maintaining a commitment to excellence in customer services.
Experience with query tools to extract data from databases. Advanced skills in Word and Excel, to include the use of pivot tables and formulas
In depth experience working with UC financial policies, procedures and systems.
Working knowledge of general accounting principles.
