ADULT AND CHILD MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR POSITIONS, NORTH SHORE MEDICAL CENTER, SALEM AND UNION HOSPITAL CAMPUSES. FULL TIME AND PART TIME POSITIONS AVAILABLE Exciting opportunity to work directly with adults or children on inpatient psychiatric units at Salem Hospital (adults) or Union Hospital campuses (child). These positions involve participation in patient care rounds, establishing therapeutic relationships with patients, managing the milieu and facilitating psycho education and therapeutic group activities. Positions require some scheduling flexibility, including every other weekend and rotating holidays. A degree in human services preferred but not required.


North Shore Medical Center Psychiatry service includes a comprehensive array of psychiatric services including 66 inpatient beds over two campuses, partial hospital program and three very busy outpatient clinics. Over the next 2-3 years, inpatient psychiatry will be expanding to 90 inpatient beds all on the Salem campus. NSMC is a member of the Partners Health Care Network that includes MGH, Brigham, McLean, Newton Wellesley Hospital and other Partners institutions.



Job Description:

Under the direction of the Nurse Director, oversees the coordination of the mental health workers care of the patients within the Inpatient Child Psychiatry unit. Responsibilities include assignment of cases, direct service to patients and supervision of mental health counselors. This position is responsible for providing effective mental health intervention to individuals and families, coordinating individual cases with the multidisciplinary team, completing and maintaining documentation.

Must have the ability to conduct effective interviews, manage difficult relationships, and engage in high-level reasoning and planning.

Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families and coworkers of diverse age, population, and multitude of cultural/ethnic backgrounds. Requires intense attention to ensure a safe environment. Basic computer skills.

Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and basic nursing functions.
Required:

Minimum of two years experience with pediatric/adolescent patients

Three to five years of experience on an inpatient psychiatry unit

A minimum of a High School education or equivalent.
Preferred:

Previous 1 years of supervisory experience

Current CPR certification

Current CPI certification

Completion of an Associates, Bachelors or higher degree program in Behavioral Health or Human Services
