JOB DESCRIPTIONGENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Biomarker Research and Clinical Trials Laboratory conducts biomarker testing for a variety of clinical trials ranging in scale from hundreds to a hundred thousand tests and maintains a biobank exceeding 750,000 samples. The Senior Laboratory Manager works closely with the labs Project Manager and under very general direction of the Lab Director and is responsible for all aspects of clinical trials. Responsible for executing, on a daily basis, the procedural, managerial and policy decisions made for each study. Participates in all decisions made for studies and identifies modifications of existing policies and procedures. Is responsible for budget oversight and participates in grant writing and proposals.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Is responsible for all aspects of clinical trials - supervises the planning, execution and completion of clinical trials.
2.Manages all laboratory personnel, including hiring, firing, performance evaluation, disciplinary action, orientation and training.
3.Is responsible for financial management of clinical trials. Develops budgets, analyzes trends, and produces reports. Plans and executes a strategy for multi-year investments in equipment, staff and training to allow for continued expansion of laboratory services and customers.
4.Is responsible for designing a regulatory strategy for the lab (i.e. weighing cost and benefit of CLIA, ISO, GCLP, etc compliance) and implementation of the strategy. Is responsible for coordination of all regulatory and compliance activities for the lab.
5.Creates and maintains SOPs and other lab practices, in compliance with industry best practices.
6.Performs administrative activities including appropriate documentation for each clinical trial.
7.Is responsible for the oversight of all supplies, equipment and documentation.
8.Participates in grant writing and proposals.
9.Directly responds to inquiries regarding study protocol and policy. Serves as a liaison to internal and external population.
10.Performs all other duties as required.
Minimum of 10 years of progressively more responsible research experience required. Prior supervisory experience required, preferably in a high throughput biomarker laboratory environment (i.e. clinical, reference or CRO/ARO laboratory).
Must be able to make independent, effective decisions in appropriate situations.
Must possess a scientific imagination commensurate with the independent execution of research projects.
Must have aptitude for technical problem solving.
Must have ability to effectively supervise others.
Must have excellent organizational skills to ensure smooth functioning of lab.
Must have demonstrated analytical skills and ability to logically sequence experiments to maximize research.
Must possess aptitude for budget management
Must have high level of computer literacy.
Normal modern, high tech laboratory environment with multiple automated and semi-automated analyzers, robotics, lab information system.
Exposure to biohazard material, such as human blood and body fluids. Minimal risk when established protocols are followed.
Responsible for supervising up to 10 FTEs, including hiring, training, firing, evaluating and disciplining.
Annual budget of up to two million dollars.
