Position supports the Patient Care Mission and Staff Flexibility Goal through maximization of cross-training effectiveness. The associate in this position is qualified to provide high quality scrubbing techniques, hemodynamic monitoring, and patient transportation. Associate is expected to fulfill this responsibility in the provision of assigned direct/indirect quality patient care in accordance with the mission of CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital. It is expected that the associate shall support the CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini strategic plan and the goals/direction of the Performance Improvement Plan.

Provides direct assistance to physician in performance of cardiac catheterization procedures while ensuring compliance with sterile technique.

Assists physician by draping patient using sterile technique; constantly monitors for breaks in sterile technique and follows appropriate protocol for notification/correction of any variance that might occur.

Directly provides assistance to the physician for selection/ usage of all supplies and equipment in the Cath Lab.

Responsible for functioning in other Cath Lab roles.

Assists with hemodynamic monitoring /EKG monitoring/computer monitoring during procedure. Notifies others of EKG and pressure changes, sutures arterial and venous sheaths in place as needed.

Removal of femoral arterial/ venous sheaths, applies pressure preventing hemorrhage / hematoma checks pulses. Removal of R Bands

Assists the Registered Nurse in continuously monitoring the safely of the patient.

Assists with safe transporting of patients, following patient identification protocol (i.e. checking ID bands/name, DOB, etc.)

Provides care to patients throughout stay in cath lab assisting with admission as well as discharge duties; communicates in a positive manner with patients and identifies/evaluates patients' needs before, during and after the procedure.

Assumes responsibility for stocking rooms ensuring adequate supplies available; maintains inventory and stocks catheterization laboratory; assists with extra duties i.e. QI, safety, education.

Acts as preceptor, offering self as mentor to new associates.

Takes responsibility to perform duties according to hospital policy.

Is familiar with and supportive of hospital policies and adheres to memos/notifications concerning policy changes; stays current on in-services for new equipment.

Consistently wears radiation badge and is mindful of minimizing radiation exposure to self.

Consistently wears hat/mask when scrubbing for procedures.

Uses proper procedure prep/scrub technique, clipping/shaving sufficient area to prevent infection.

Acts as a patient educator, prior, during, and after procedure to answer questions, provide reassurance, and address concerns.

Consistently introduces self to patient and begins explaining procedure, offering reassurance to patient and addressing concerns as necessary.

Communicates effectively with patients during procedures.

Reinforces patient and family teaching pre, intra, and post procedure.



Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

English required, bilingual (English/Spanish; English/French) preferred


Cath Lab experience preferred. Radiology Techs preferred.

Licenses, Registrations or Certifications

Current BLS Card.

ACLS preferred and highly encouraged
