BWFH preoperative holding area is the first encounter a surgical patient and family member enter. The Preoperative Holding area has 2 locations for a total of 16 bay patient areas. The Preoperative staffs primary responsibility is to provide information and emotional support for patients and their loved ones. As part of the preparation for any surgical procedure, anesthesia meets with the patients and families to discuss any concerns or issues with their anesthesia plan of care. The interdisciplinary team evaluates all patients prior to moving into the operative suite as patient safety is always a priority.

The Pre -Op RN will possess the ability to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and accurately document nursing care for the pre-operative patients. The Registered Nurse coordinates all aspects of nursing care with all disciplines to achieve defined patient outcomes. The RN needs to possess the skill to provide appropriate education to the patient and family regarding their plan of care. The Pre-Op RN must demonstrate excellent customer service skills when interacting with patients, families and coworkers.

Schedule: Per diem, Variable start times from 6:00am - 10:00am 8, 10 or 12 hr shifts.

BSN required. 2-3 years Acute Care experience required. BLS and ACLS required. Competent IV skills. Adheres to all C.A.R.E. standards. Must show evidence of the basic analytic thinking necessary to care for a group of patients. Demonstrate observational skills and the ability to set priorities. Ability to function under stress with good interpersonal and communication skills. Must demonstrate effective skills in applying hospital standards in area of service, team work, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management.
