JOB SUMMARY

1. Surgical Assisting (Consent patient to procedure; oxygen and monitors as needed; monitor patients vital signs during sedation; passes instruments to surgeon; anticipate needs of surgeon; maintains a neat and orderly sterile field during each case; assist surgeon with any adverse outcomes during case (i.e., low oxygen saturation); provide airway support as needed. Assist surgeons/nurses in the management of any anesthetic or surgical emergencies.)

2. Pre and Post Surgery (Obtain necessary supplies/instruments for cases; assure that appropriate pre-anesthetic preparation as occurred (NPO, escort, no changes in health) prior to beginning patient preparation for surgery; record baseline vital signs and notify doctor of abnormal reading setup and breakdown surgeries; postop disinfection of operatory; provide postop instructions to patient; transport sedated patients to vehicle. prioritize seating of patients and operatory use based on faculty, resident and students. Assess the types of care needed by patients int he waiting area and triage them appropriately based on urgency of care required.)

3. Clinical Operation (Order and place inventory in appropriate storage area; glucometer QC and patient checks; seat patient and clean rooms; take radiographs; support students during OMS learning experience; stock rooms as assigned.)

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES

Microsoft Office (Primarlly Excel, WOrk, and Outlook), Housestaff scheduling system, and AxiUm.
