Safety Internship

Our client, located in Franklin Park, IL is searching for an intern to join its Safety, Health, & Environmental Department. The Internship will be between 10 and 12 weeks during summer 2011. This is a paid internship opportunity.

The Safety intern will focus his/her time on the following:
-Assist in aspects of sustaining the ISO 14001 Environmental & OHSAS 18001 Safety certifications
-Conduct safety inspections, document findings, and coordinate corrective actions.
-Recommend and coordinate improvement on the at-risk behaviors, conditions, material, and equipment.
-Participate in safety and environmental incident response and investigations; ensure root cause is identified, corrective action taken, and action tracking is managed to closure.
-Coordinate and deliver comprehensive orientation and educational programs to develop skills, including regular communications and refresher training.
-Coach, train, and develop employees on safety health, and environmental policies, procedures and initiatives to build cross functional ownership and shared leadership for program implementation.
-Updating written procedures and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), develop inspection checklists and audit tools.

Job Experience:

The successful incumbent profile for this internship is:

-Current College Student in an Accredited Program Seeking a Bachelors Degree in Occupational Safety
-Entered or already started their Senior Year
-Have a GPA of 3.0 or greater (based on 4.0 scale)
-Ability to work a flexible schedule
-Prior experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred
-Have strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to provide writing samples to that effect.
-Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
