JOB DESCRIPTIONAt Johns Manville, we protect our employees, communities, environment and the world. We are hiring a Plant Safety Specialist to join our EH&S team in McPherson, Kansas. The Plant Safety Specialist will focus on plant safety, rollout safety policies, and think outside the box to take the safety program to the next level. The Plant Safety Specialist will work with the plant operations team and corporate EH&S team to embrace our goal of a 'zero harm workplace'. This position reports to the Plant Manager in McPherson.
Responsibilities:* Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements.* Act as an OSHA regulatory compliance resource.* Establish and drive continuous improvement in the facility's safety monitoring and recordkeeping systems to ensure compliance with all JM policies and federal regulatory requirements.* Maintain Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) within the plant and status through annual reports, continuous improvements, and updates to all safety programs.* Assist EHS Manager and JM Corporate Safety to evaluate and determine appropriate proactive safety strategies for projects that may have an impact on existing facility or employees.* Develop action plans for safety activities, coordinate plant SAFE teams, perform follow-up on these activities, and report status to HSE manager.* Facilitate safety training for all plant personnel (Behavior Based Safety, Confined Space, Incident Case Management, Hazard Recognition, others as needed).* Compile and track all documentation for compliance with all safety policies and required safety activities (Work Notifications, Inspection Records, OSHA 300, etc.).* Work within EHS department on plant initiatives towards Lean, Kaizen, Cost Reduction, 5S and other facility improvements. * Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and programs.* Ensure all safety and health metrics and reports are completed and communicated in a timely manner.* Help in regard to workers compensation cases with HSE manager.* Serve as backup for Environmental Specialist and assist with environmental issues as assigned or required.* Serve as training coordinator for all EHS-related trainings through PureSafety and Mastery computer based training (CBT).
