Job Description


Reporting directly to the Director, Project Management, the Scientific Project Manager (SPM) provides project stewardship to achieve objectives while managing costs, project schedules and timelines, and performance. Primary areas of responsibility include but are not limited to project initiation, planning, budgeting, execution, monitoring, controlling and project closure. The SPM will also provide support in developing preclinical and clinical project plans, proposals, coordination and execution of critical contract activities, ensuring timely communications, and meeting contractual obligations. The project manager acts as subject-matter-expert (SME) for all things associated with project management processes and general best practices.


Operations Management and Leadership

Coordinates creation and maintenance of project plans and timelines
Ensures linkage between corporate strategies and operational activities
Identifies issues and facilitates problem solving, contingency planning, and decision-making
Informs key stakeholders of project statuses, issues, problems, and proposed solutions as appropriate
Partners with Project Team Leader to foster effective team dynamics
Provides performance feedback to team and cross-functional line management on project teams as requested

Project Timelines and Resource Management

Serves as a Project Management SME in the development and commercialization of recombinant proteins
Maintains uniformity of project management work processes, tools, and deliverables across different product development teams and tracks effectiveness using well-designed metrics and KPI's
As a single-point-of contact on the Product Development Team (PDT), the SPM represents the PM function to ensure the team uses the most effective tools, metrics and processes to effectively achieve project goals
Works with the project teams to develop, maintain, and align accurate, integrated project timelines and resource plans
In collaboration with project teams, generates and understands critical path activities (by definition), anticipates risks, and creates contingency plans using MS Project and other project management software tools
Generates continual analysis of timelines and resource information that facilitate scenario planning, formally assesses and mitigates project risks, and drives project teams through problem solving and decision-making
Monitors and manages team performance metrics relevant to agreed upon project plan
Coordinates interactions with the finance team to ensure programs have adequate budget and resources to support approved scope of assigned projects
Monitors and reports project status to Product Leaders and Senior Management as needed
