Job Advertised by Pharmadiversity Job Board - Under limited and minimal direction and supervision, this position is primarily technical with administrative responsibilities for project and personnel management.The position will direct research related to topical and transdermal drug products focused in five main technical areas: 1) Sophisticated instrumental method development; 2) Structure elucidation of drug related substances and drug degradation products; 3) Analysis of competitors products; 4) Extractable/Leachable studies on drug product containers and 5) Resolution of manufacturing and analytical problems through the application of organic/analytical chemistry principals.This position is also responsible for project management within the Department of Analytical Services.Essential functions include: *Will manage several scientists and direct their research in the five areas outlined above. *May participate in the interpretation of complex data obtained by chromatographic and spectroscopic means such as HPLC, GC, LC/MS, GC/MS, FTIR, 1 HNMR, 13 CNMR, DSC, traditional GPC and SEC with light scattering(LS) detection. *Responsible for the introduction of new instrumental techniques. * This position requires a creative approach to directing research particularly in the analysis of polymer containing products such as transdermal patches, hydrogels, gels and ointments. *Participation in day to day problem solving with the application of organic/analytical principals to the resolution of manufacturing issues or issues that arise with various analytical methods employed to analyze raw materials or drug products. *Report writing and presentations summarizing the results of analyses. *Project management within the Department of Analytical Services involving the organization of tasks surrounding the development of a new drug product. *Related duties as assigned.Knowledge of: - Sophisticated Method Development the techniques of LC/MS (+ESI, -ESI and APCI); GC/MS and SEC/LS - Familiarity with physical methods of testing transdermals and topicals is desirable - Familiarity with standard software included in Microsoft Office, molecular modeling and structure drawing programs (i.e. ChemOffice Ultra) is required. - Some organic synthetic experience is complimentary. - Both excellent verbal and written skills are required. - A detailed knowledge of mechanism and structure in Organic Chemistry is required as is an extensive knowledge of organic analytical methods, some synthetic experience and a familiarity with polymers. Supervisory experience is preferred. Bachelors Degree in Science or related scientific field from an accredited college or university, and eighteen (18) years related pharmaceutical laboratory or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
