All Security Officers will assume responsibility for the safety and well-being of patients, employees, physicians, visitors and Medical Center property. These responsibilities include continuous surveillance, reporting and documenting all incidents and remaining sensitive to the need for delivery of quality guest services and assistance to all persons visiting the Medical Center. 1. Makes continuous patrols throughout the Medical Center to observe and take corrective action regarding violations and detrimental conditions related to security and safety of patients, visitors, employees and property. 2. Responds to calls for security assistance by any person within the Medical Center and takes proper action including response to a Code 76, Code Red and Code Yellow. 3. When assigned to the Emergency Trauma Dept., provides continuous coverage of the Emergency Room area, controlling access to the area and assisting patients and visitors. 4. Controls visitor access to patient units, check visitors passes and patrols nursing units during visiting hours to enforce visiting and no smoking regulations. Controls all vendor access and enforces the pass policy. 5. Maintains and controls access to all facilities owned or operated by Hackensack University Medical Center. 6. Expedites and ensures safe flow of traffic through the Medical Center parking lots. 7. Conducts preliminary and/or detailed investigations of all unusual occurrences falling under the realm of security matters. 8. Provides escorts to employee and visitor vehicles as requested within jurisdiction. 9. Reports for duty in clean and complete Medical Center issued uniform, including photo identification badge and security officer breast badge. 10. Provides information and assistance in a courteous manner to those requesting same. 11. Makes continuous inspections of outer buildings, grounds, and parking lots. 12. Inspects all packages leaving the Medical Center when necessary. 13. Prepares and submits computerized security incident reports before end of shift. 14. Completes and submits a daily activity log at completion of tour of duty. 15. Maintains all departmental security equipment in good operating condition and reports all damage immediately to supervisor. 16. Always keeps Security Supervisor, Senior Officer informed of all matters pertinent to safety and security conditions. 17. Abides by all Medical Center Code of Conduct regulations and departmental procedures and policies including parking regulations. 18. Will complete all in-service training, lectures and programs as assigned. 19. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 20. Attend all mandatory meetings (departmental or special). 21. Will be required to perform duties as assigned by Management and required to carry out emergency duties when necessary. Working Conditions: 1. Must be able to stand and walk for long period of time, minimum of 8hrs a day. Lift a minimum of 100 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 100 lbs. Ability to handle disorderly and/or abusive patients and visitors. This will include psychiatric patients and patients brought into the Emergency Trauma Department under arrest. 2. Subject to all weather conditions; will be required to work in all areas of the Medical Center, including parking lots, grounds and outer buildings as requested. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. Must be a High School graduate. 2. Must be able to read and write English. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 1. At least two years of college credits. 2. Previous experience as Security Officer or Law Enforcement experience desired. Licenses and Certifications Required: 1.
