The Sedation Manager works under the Associate Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and the chair of the Sedation Committee. The position functions as a consultant for the division of Nursing, Medical Staff Offices, Accreditation and Regulatory compliance and the department of Anesthesiology. The position provides leadership to include consistent direction, consultation and support for nursing personnel and for provider-based sedation in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating sedation practices within the applicable scopes of practice related to, anxiolysis, moderate sedation and deep sedation. Overall committee responsibilities is to serve as co-chair and provide leadership support to the sedation committee, to promote and improve adherence to accreditation, regulatory, policy and practice specific to administration of sedation in conjunction with and under the direction of the Chief of Anesthesiology.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).


Oversees and coordinates credentialing and privileging activities for medical staff, advanced practice staff in collaboration with the medical staff office and the Nurse Credential Review Board

Develops and maintains quality and patient safety measures for sedation and pain. Measure will align with the quality measures of nursing and anesthesia

Functions as a liaison with various other stakeholders and sedation providers within LPCH to triage sedation requests.

Functions as a liaison with providers (nursing and physicians) in each sedating department to address sedation requests and questions. Oversees sedation delivery and documentation in each department.

Functions as a sedation provider consultant for the implementation of EPIC system for sedation and sedation reporting and/or pain and pain reporting.

Tracks the implementation and collection of data/ data entry for the Pediatric Sedation Research Consortium.

Responsible for managing compliance and sedation education throughout the organization.

Serves as a member of the sedation committee which includes overseeing development of agenda and meeting minutes.

Supports compliance and accreditation readiness for sedation and pain management.

Reviews metrics and outcomes and reports out to the sedation committee.

Interprets new regulations for physicians and staff and ensures the Medical Center is in compliance

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university (BSN)

Experience: 5 years clinical experience required

License/Certification: CA Registered Nurse (RN)

Knowledge of TJC QI standards and other regulatory requirements

Knowledge of JCAHO survey process
