POSITION SUMMARY:

Working from Connections Education's Columbia (Stanford) office, the Senior Accountant-BPM ("Business Partner Management") is responsible for supporting the annual budget and period forecasts, reviewing account reconciliations and activity roll forwards, and performing analysis on key expenses and cost drivers that would impact operating income. This position offers a chance to do more than just month-end close and general ledger work. Our growth will provide the Senior Accountant-BPM a chance to make an impact on the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, by participating in extensive financial and variance analysis. The Senior Accountant-BPM will utilize accounting knowledge, research and analytical skills to research accounting issues. This position interacts on a regular basis with both internal departmental management and executive management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Assisting the month end close process for assigned accounts and operating schools/department(s) through the preparation of journal entries, preparation and/or review of account reconciliations, and the performance of variance analysis as compared to forecast;
* Perform analysis on budgeted/forecasted data to assess impact on operating income, including, but not limited to, price/volume considerations, analysis of key expenses and cost drivers, and trend analysis;
* Support the preparation of annual budget and periodic financial forecasts (including detailed monthly rolling current-year forecast at the same level of detail as the management accounts, including committed amounts), and then support updates/changes;
* Review school contracts and understand pricing, inputs and other considerations that factor into revenue recognition;
* Research accounting issues and prepare accounting research memos for accounting transactions;
* Assist in the development, documentation and implementation of policies, procedures and internal controls for the department, and maintain compliance with such policies and controls;
* Assist with or lead assigned projects to improve efficiency for financial reporting and data analysis
* Interact and coordinate with parent company on special tasks and reporting requirements;
* Interact with customers including employees, management and accounting department;
* Process transactions, make copies, file and perform other duties as necessary;
* Participate in implementing process improvement initiatives; and
* Other duties and special projects as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Experience in a multi-company environment
* Experience in a high-growth company
* Two (2) years public accounting experience
* Experience using Great Plains accounting software
* CPA or CPA candidate

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
* Minimum of three (3) years of related experience
* Strong and practical working knowledge of accounting theory and practices
* Proficiency utilizing accounting software, such as Great Plains
* Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office products, including advanced knowledge of Excel
