Summary: The Senior Cost Accountant role is responsible for providing insights and solutions for contract and award activity.

The Senior Cost Accountant role is responsible for providing insights and solutions for contract and award activity. This financial business partner role requires analysis of business and financial activities and presentation of material in a manner which can be understood by non-financial customers. The individual in this role actively participates in annual planning, forecasting, billing, accounting functions and the monthly close process and ensures financially sound business plans. This includes building collaborative relationships with internal and external customers. This individual will serve as a go - to/subject matter expert for budgeting, financial analysis and forecasting for contracts and awards.

The Senior Cost Accountant assures new contracts and awards are grounded with appropriate levels of financial analysis. This position does not have direct reports but may provide work direction, delegate responsibilities and drive management decisions regarding financial support. The Senior Cost Accountant supports moderately to highly complex contracts and awards and requires an understanding of revenue recognition.

Minimum Education:

Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or business. Public accounting experience performing Single Audits and CPA strongly preferred.

Minimum Experience:

Five or more years of progressive accounting or financial planning and analysis in a fast paced environment. Prior government cost accounting experience desirable. Experience working with systems such as Hyperion, OBIEE and Oracle. Report building experience also preferred.

Key Knowledge:

Rate structures, government costing principles, CAS, FAR and Super Circular regulations preferred. Strong understanding of accounting, financial planning and analysis, financial modeling and financial reporting.

Advanced spreadsheet skills. Experience with project based software application highly desirable. E.g. Oracle Grants and Projects.

Exceptional organizational and management skills, with the ability to organize information, manage tasks and projects, and effectively utilize tools and resources. Strong analytical skills needed. Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; can navigate both people and financial system networks to obtain data and information. Ability to influence and motivate others with or without direct control or supervisory responsibility. Assertive, able to challenge ideas and propose alternatives. Desire to constantly seek and offer constructive feedback. Ability to work in a complex, high speed environment in search of desirable results under conditions of uncertainty and high change.
