Its operations provide essential information to nearly every segment of the global financial community, creating the tools, analysis and research needed to make informed investment decisions. www.sp-150.com Standard and Poors is seeking a Sr. Application Developer to be a key player in the analysis, design, development, and support of the Equity Research Data and Reports Platform. This role requires a seasoned technologist, who can participate in the development and maintenance efforts of key application modules and also respond to and resolve production issues. The candidate must be a delivery-focused person with solid financial applications experience skills. The candidate will report to the Director of Application Development and assist in Application Design, development, code reviews and unit testing and support. The responsibilities also include:
Design and develop industry-leading applications for the Equity Research unit
Build components, and common services based on standard corporate development models, languages and tools
Respond to and resolve production issues
Lead on-going application development and maintenance.
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems
A minimum of 8+ years of strong experience in application development using core Java and Java/J2EE technologies.
Experience with XML for data integration and XSL, XSLT for report generation.
Experience on Sun Solaris, Linux and unix scripts
Strong Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures, SQL optimization skills
Proficiency using IDE, Web Server, Application Server, Source Control System, Unit-testing and defect management tools.
Interact with servers using SSH, FTP and Telnet protocols
Working knowledge of Web Servers such as SunOne and Weblogic,
Understanding of financial markets and asset classes like Equity, Bonds, Fixed Income, Options, Index/Benchmarks
Work experience with a financial data vendor a plus
Excellent communication skills are essential, with strong verbal and writing proficiencies
Strong knowledge of database and information architecture with web application integration
Ability to apply business logic to development requirements
Suggests areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible solutions
Communicates effectively with clients to identify requirements and evaluate alternative business solutions
Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a deadline driven environment
Ability to work successfully both independently and in a team setting
