The University of Chicago is located in the Hyde Park/South Kenwood neighborhood, a racially and economically diverse residential community of 43,000 people on the shores of Lake Michigan, about fifteen minutes south of downtown Chicago.
Ida Noyes Hall, was originally designed to be a women's gymnasium and social center at the University of Chicago. Currently, the primary purpose of Ida Noyes Hall is to provide facilities and services to student organizations and university departments, and to permanently house offices and programs affiliated with several departments including Career Advancement, Spiritual Life, Documentary Films, the University Pub, and more. The event spaces in Ida Noyes are used heavily for programs and events ranging in size from a few to several hundred participants, and are broad in nature and purpose.
