POSITION INFORMATION

The Senior Director of Development is a chief advancement officer for the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. The incumbent leads the College Development unit and is responsible for creating an extensive program of engagement between the College and external constituencies that will encourage major gift private philanthropy to the College. The incumbent ensures the success of multiple fundraising projects and the achievement of campus objectives.This is a two year, renewable contract position which includes the same employee benefits afforded career employees. Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Minimum of 10 years of related experience.

6 years experience in fundraising in higher education or a major research environment

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Proven experience in the full spectrum of development including cultivation, stewardship and donor recognition.
Good organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills.
Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence and motivation with the proven ability to persuade colleagues and donor prospects, while maintaining confidentiality in all matters as they relate to sensitive donor relations issues.
Working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations and public relations concepts, principles, procedures and techniques.
Experience to direct the design of strategies for cultivation and solicitation of prospective donors.
Good written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the campus and/or medical center and with external constituencies.
Working knowledge of the campus and/or medical center, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
Ability to travel outside of normal business hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, et cetera.

Skill to maintain confidentiality.

Exceptional skill in communicating persuasively, both orally and in writing, about private gift fundraising in general and in particular as it applies to UCR.

Proven ability to work effectively with deans and directors, academic and University leaders and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals. Ability to work effectively with other advancement staff in devising, analyzing, modifying, implementing, and evaluating development programs.

Exceptional organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills.

Ability to conceptualize, design and implement a development program.
