Job Description
Senior Engineer VoIP/Video Administration Location: Networks Information Technology Iowa City, IA Job Description: Provide design, support, and administrative activities for all ACT VoIP and video networks. Typical work related activities include: * Manage voice operations including daily work orders, security, and software and hardware upgrades. * Manage all assigned projects; monitor progress, allocate resources, and update management. Design and implement project specifications for technical staff. * Plan for interface, management, and phase out of legacy Avaya telephony systems. * Select, deploy, and utilize appropriate tools for reporting and routing of IP telephony traffic on the network. * Collaborate with systems engineers/architects for upgrades to operating systems, hardware, etc. * Remain current on new transport protocols, products, and standards in support of VoIP/Video systems development and equipment procurement. * Provide leadership for implementing new VoIP and Video products or services. * Integrate IP telephony and Video systems with enterprise LANs, WANs, wireless LANs, and other Internet based services and protocols. * Collaborate with help desk to resolve trouble tickets and mitigate end user issues. * Assist with the installation planning and maintenance of network cabling, including MDF and IDF closets. * Perform telephony audits as necessary. * Train and mentor junior engineers and other members of the telecommunications department. * Monitor and identify capacity and performance issues for VoIP traffic to ensure continued, uninterrupted operation of telephony systems. * Collaborate with network engineers or administrators to ensure that VoIP traffic does not interfere with or hinder network data traffic. * Conduct testing and development disaster recovery plans to detect faults, minimize malfunctions, and back up systems. * Perform periodic random security audits. * Implement capacity management and planning by usage for trend forecasting and adjust as necessary to prevent resource inadequacies. * Assist in annual budget creation, end user review of Service Level Agreement requirements, and the review, evaluation, and recommendation of new technologies. * Ensure network configurations are being documented and changes are being updated. * Assist in escalation and coordination of problematic issues related to hardware and/or software applications. * Act as technical advisor for management and project managers. * Participate in the on call rotation system for the Operations department. * Communicate effectively and efficiently with other staff members and with ACT clients. * Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding corporate information. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field and at least 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities have been acquired. Demonstrated competence with analyzing business processes and a proven track record in designing and implementing robust corporate infrastructures for technology. Technical knowledge of VoIP/IP telephony and video systems, software, and hardware, including Cisco UCS, Call Center, and Cisco/Tandberg video, and of Cisco IOS and Avaya operating systems. Strong understanding of VoIP/Video QoS issues and mitigation strategies. Familiarity with LAN and WAN topologies and knowledge of cabling and wiring systems.
