Senior Enterprise Systems Engineer
LENGTH OF ASSIGNMENT
Fiscal Year - FT Continuing Contract
Provide technical and systems expertise for the planning, , implementation, support and advancement of the University enterprise computing resources; manage and ensure high reliability and availability of local and remotely hosted enterprise multi-user computer systems; reduce the complexity of the Enterprise computing environment while minimizing the overall IT footprint; maintain appropriate information technology security controls and provide excellent computer systems technical support to users of University information technology resources.
Bachelor s degree.
Demonstrated deep technical knowledge in the deployment and management of enterprise system technologies including advanced server and storage configurations and an understanding of the major cloud-based providers; at least three years of experience in a technical leadership or project management capacity at the enterprise information systems project or group level; extensive experience designing, deploying, and managing enterprise systems technology and systems management and monitoring tools.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of individuals; must pass relevant related background/records checks; demonstrated exceptional writing skills; must be highly available and be willing to own responsibility for assuring continuity of enterprise systems, responding to or insuring the response of other team members on a 24 hour-a-day, 365 day-a-year basis.
Extensive experience at the senior engineering level for enterprise technologies such as but not limited to Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, SAN and VMware/Hyper-V server virtualization; advanced technical knowledge of current enterprise hardware configurations for large-scale enterprise deployments such as but not limited to multi-failover system arrays, SAN/NAS deployments, load balancing and remote failover capability configurations.
Knowledge of standard policies, practices and procedures for IT services, including selection, deployment, support, auditability, redundancy and capacity & growth planning; experience with external consulting firms and project management personnel; experience cultivating vendor and partner relationships for the acquisition of enterprise computing systems, software, services and solutions; experience establishing and maintaining information security controls including procedures, systems and infrastructure involving domain controllers, active directory and group policy administration.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Take all necessary and appropriate actions to assure the availability, integrity, and continuous operation of the university s enterprise information systems; develop and establish strategies, protocols, and operational procedures based on industry best-practices to reduce unscheduled downtime to the greatest extent possible while minimizing complexity.
Work with the IT Architect Analyst to validate patterns and practices to assure continuous monitoring of system health and performance as well as alerting and remediation protocols to proactively identify, alert, and remediate system anomalies before they result in system disruption; identify and implement best-practice industry standards and procedures to assure optimal systems performance.
Oversee incident response including those required to ensure fast reaction from internal staff, vendor engagement, escalation of key decision points, communication, and speedy resolution; coordinate resolution of problems potentially or actually adversely affecting the enterprise systems environment; ensure all managed systems are recoverable within predicted timeframes in the event of hardware, software or other failure.
Seek out new solutions while adopting and implementing new technologies in the environment; introduce new solutions into the environment using a systematic approach providing the reliability of new technologies from initial introduction to test and from test to production.
Leverage new technologies to drive down the operational costs while minimizing the overall complexity of the environment; leverage cloud-based solutions to accomplish standard infrastructure tasks such as backups, disaster recovery and general hosting services.
Oversee server and storage device maintenance activity, including the timely application of patches and updates; perform installation of new equipment, physical-to-virtual system conversions and on premise to cloud-based system conversions as required.
Provide appropriate leadership and direction to department associates in order to accomplish department goals and objectives in a timely and cost effective manner; track projects and work flow across the department to ensure appropriate productivity, quality, and alignment with established goals and strategic plans; oversee enterprise systems personnel and technical teams to ensure supportable and sustainable systems.
Perform research and technical analysis of technology options and provide concise and unbiased assessments of competing technical strategies impacting the selection of appropriate technology; assist in defining strategies and direction for enterprise technology architecture.
Establish relevant practices, standards, and procedures for production services, including selection, deployment, support, auditability, redundancy, capacity and growth planning; collaborate with the Enterprise Systems Process Coordinator to establish and maintain technical system equipment maintenance procedures and documentation.
Establish and maintain working relationships with service providers, vendors, other IT departmental units and other areas of the university to develop and maintain systems, services and software development environments; establish and cultivate appropriate vendor and partner
