JOB DUTIES:

Maintain positive relationships with payers by ensuring open and consistent flow of communication and keep embassy and other payers updated of patient status in compliant manner. Work alongside embassy and other payers to address and resolve any patient care issues or concerns. Provide accurate, concise and objective oral interpretations for non-English (Arabic) - speaking patients throughout the UCLA Health System, including the Westwood and Santa Monica Hospitals, NPH, Children's Hospital, UCLA Medical Plaza. Coordinate care for international patients who seek medical care from UCLA Health System. Work collaboratively with UCLA Health staff and faculty in facilitating patient s care, and assist in arranging to resolve needs or services. Interface and collaborate effectively with Chairs, Chiefs, Faculty, residents and staff to clearly identify causes of complex patient situations which may include clinical quality, access, interdisciplinary communication and the delivery of ancillary services. Facilitate and encourage referrals through broad network and contacts; communicate with payors including patients, embassies in Washington DC, consulate offices, and other sponsors re: the medical status of patients and work closely with the Patient Coordinator(s) and financial team to ensure all financial arrangements including adequate deposits and authorizations are in place and follow-up appointments are consistently scheduled. Ensure accurate and timely quote estimates are provided to patients for recommended treatment plans per departmental procedures. Provide or make arrangements for other patient support services needed by the international patient. Assist with other projects, activities and tasks as needed.



JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated ability to speak and read Arabic language fluently required. Knowledge of basic medical terminology both in English and Arabic highly preferred. General knowledge of international healthcare. Knowledge of physician referral procedures.
Demonstrated experience working in healthcare or hospitality environment. Demonstrated experience in effectively relating to international patients or clients and their representatives. Ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with physician offices and hospital staff. Ability to interact effectively with persons of all cultures and positions, including physicians, UCLA managers, foreign national royalties and VIPs. Ability to interpret UCLA policies and procedures to patients and/or their representatives diplomatically and effectively. Experience working as a Arabic medical interpreter highly preferred. Ability to be productive in an environment which requires independence, limited supervision and the need to use good judgment due to conflicting or unclear goals and priorities. Knowledge of UCLA referral, admissions, accounting and other systems preferred. Knowledge of the target language culture and the American culture, and ability to serve as the communications bridge between these cultures. Familiar with diversity of cultural/socio-economic backgrounds. Knowledge of PCs and applications including WINDOWS, MS Outlook, EXCEL, ACCESS and WORD. Knowledge of UCLA referral, admissions, accounting and other systems preferred. Knowledge of English grammar necessary to communicate clearly in writing and orally. Ability to communicate recommendations clearly and concisely in writing and verbally. Knowledge of academic or teaching hospitals preferred.
