We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated, well organized strategic leader for our Director, Development Annual Giving opportunity in our Philanthropy Department.

Rush is a not-for-profit academic medical center comprising Rush University Medical Center, Rush University, Rush Oak Park Hospital and Rush Health. Rush University Medical Center encompasses a 664-bed hospital serving adults and children, including the Johnston R. Bowman Health Center, which provides medical and rehabilitative care to older adults and people with short- and long-term disabilities. In 2012 Rush opened a 376-bed hospital building, known as the Tower, which is part of the Medical Center's major renovation of its campus. This renovation also included Rush's Orthopedic Building, which opened in 2010, and the new outpatient cancer center in 2011.

Rush is currently in the planning phases of the next comprehensive campaign, and this position is critical to the success of our fundraising efforts.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Director of Development, Annual Giving is responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction and management of the execution of a comprehensive annual giving program. The goals of the annual giving program are to provide a strong financial base for the Medical Center and Rush University through acquisition of new donors and retention and upgrading of existing donors. This position reports to the Associate Vice President, Philanthropy and collaborates regularly with the other members of the Office of Philanthropy, including Alumni Relations, Major and Principal Gifts, and Gift Planning officers; Advancement Services, Stewardship, and Development Communications and Events team members, This function also interfaces regularly with other departments at Rush, including Marketing and Communications, Finance and Internet Services.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*

Establish an annual plan with strategies, tactics, measurable goals and timelines which are integrally linked to the overall department goals. In creating the plan, work collaboratively with peers to help ensure that planning is integrated across audiences. Communicate the plan to supervisor and departmental leadership and report monthly on progress toward goals.
*

Guide the execution of the annual giving program throughout the year and manage the execution of the operating plan to achieve annual goals.
*

Utilize a mix of communications tactics, including print, email, and phone appeals as well as selected social media outreach, allocating time and financial resources based on audience preferences and annual giving best practices.
*

Work closely with supervisor on the development of an annual budget to support annual giving initiatives in a cost-efficient and effective manner and oversee the execution of tactics to ensure on-budget spending.
*

Collaborate effectively with alumni, major gifts and principal gifts teams to secure leadership level annual gifts, formulating strategies and tactics in conjunction with front-line fundraisers.
*

Seek to retain existing members and secure new members in the Anchor Cross Society (ACS) both individually and in collaboration with front-line fundraisers; report regularly on progress toward goals.
*

Support the collaboration of the volunteer chair of the society in strategy development and the execution of tactics related to individual ACS members/prospects.
*

Oversee the development of strategies to increase medical and nursing alumni participation and retention goals in collaboration with the Alumni Relations team.
*

Collaborate with Development Communications, Stewardship, Marketing and Communications, Rush leadership, physicians, and other employees to develop targeted appeal messages that showcase Rush s research advances and clinical breakthroughs while reinforcing the mission and vision of the medical center.
*

Supervise annual giving staff including hiring and performance evaluations.
*

Manage the content on the Rush Web site for online giving and promote awareness of the impact of annual giving via Rush s social networking sites.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

*

Baccalaureate degree.
*

Five-to-seven years of proven experience in Philanthropy with demonstrated increase in responsibility, and a minimum of three years as either a director or assistant director of an annual giving program.
*

Ability to think strategically about audiences and implement effective solicitation strategies to meet the goals of the program and the department.
*

Superior oral and written communication skills.
*

Advanced Excel skills and experience working with relational databases such as Access.
*

Ability to conceive and manage projects from inception to delivery, including tracking and reporting on progress and results
*

Ability to effectively manage staff to meet program goals.
*

Ability to work well in a collaborative environment and problem solve challenges.
*

Ability to articulate Rush s mission and the campaign vision to a variety of constituencies with poise and diplomacy.
