Over the past four years (2012-2016) Sleep Number has made significant investments into proprietary sleep innovations, a new vertically integrated Oracle/Siebel ERP system, and a rebranding of the store base to nearly a 50% balance between non-mall and mall locations. Now the training focus shifts to delivering returns on these investments. This requires a strong sales and customer experience training leader to drive significant sales growth and continuous advances in sleep innovation training, simplified customer experiences, ongoing customer relationships, and field systems operating efficiencies. The Senior Manager of Sales Training individually and collectively manages all phases of sales training needs and execution, including regular reviews with senior management to ensure alignment to Sleep Number objectives and priorities. This position is a Director development position to strengthen our Sleep Number talent pipeline.


* Strategically plan and lead all phases of field sales training goals and objectives including management and development of all Direct and Retail National Trainers

* Actively travel into markets to conduct sales management training, National Trainer development, District store visits, competitive evaluation, and business meetings

* Lead beyond individual performance by integrating a total Sales and Services Training leadership role

* Collaborate with Sr. Manager Training Development, Sr. Manager Services Training, and Home Delivery Training Manager to achieve breakthrough training results for all customer-facing employees

* Quickly identify immediate sales training needs and connections to make timely decisions in spite of ambiguity; ensure sales training is designed to serve Sleep Number customers and sales teams

* React quickly to the need for change and lead collaboration across broad cross-function teams to develop customer-centric sales training in support of Sleep Number product and strategic brand priorities

* Actively resolve all open issues with new training coming to market and work cross functionally with sales and Home Office partners to identify cross-team program risks, issues and decisions

* Enhance sales operations and sales communication programs with customer experience and sales training strategies

* Deliver assigned programs to planned budget, branding, resourcing, and milestones effectively analyze and interpret complex data and information with 4 Box Objectives-Givens-Solutions-Resources planning to set individual project priorities, as required, and manage project implementation

* Allocate and inspire talent resources with RASCI roles model (responsible, accountable, support, consult, inform) to enable/sustain focus on top priorities and project implementation

* Consistently be a positive opinion leader of Sleep Number and sales training development initiatives

* Empower, coach and mentor training and sales partners with ongoing SILBAC coaching (situation, impact, listening, buy-in, action, confidence)

* Assist in preparation of annual budgets and budget changes


* Director, Sr. Manager, or Manager of Training level experience preferred with a desire to learn and advance at Sleep Number and the Sales and Services Training team

* 5 or more years business/sales training acumen, engagement, and leadership

* Internal candidates: 2 or more years leading Grade 8-9 level employees preferred

* Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred

* 60% travel required:

* 4 Week Months: 3 travel weeks
