SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Evaluate overall market performance, efficiency, behaviors, and the impact of market rules. Analyze and provide support for data evaluations of market structures, outcomes, and the periodic reporting of market status and results. Assess the effects that modeling decisions, market algorithms, and software implementation have on market outcomes and the ability of MISO to accurately follow tariff requirements. Develop methods and systems for evaluating effects that existing processes have on market efficiency and prices. Develop improvements to the market processes that are hindering the achievement of market efficiency. Conduct analysis and testing on proposed modifications to existing or new design to correct identified deficiencies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Perform engineering, statistical and economic analysis on market operations, participant activities, pricing, demand-supply discrepancies, market failure, market anomalies and market design.
* Perform statistical and economic studies of the models and algorithms used to clear electricity markets to identify anomalous or inefficient market outcomes with respect to attributes such as price signals, competition and cost causation
* Maintain compliance with market rules and business practices.
* Support and serve on internal and external committees, task forces, and working groups.
* Propose, develop, and evaluate new wholesale electricity market design initiatives.
* Develop economic and operating data assumptions.
* Investigate and make improvements to market models and algorithms.
* Perform market analysis, including power market simulations.
* Provide economic analysis for market designs, develop key market performance indicators, evaluate market conditions, and perform price analysis.
* Assess the compliance of MISO market systems with tariff requirements and propose changes to the systems and tariff to improve compliance.
* Produce periodic reports on market results, trends and statistics.
* Evaluate both routine and difficult matters of moderate risk and identifies multiple solutions using advanced analytical techniques. Makes decisions affecting the design, scheduling, and completion of projects.
* Examine highly complex data from multiple sources crossing departmental boundaries in which results are not predictable.
* Utilize multiple advanced analytical techniques such as critical, creative, conceptual and intuitive thinking to analyze moderately high risk situations, generate multiple options and approaches while considering how the solution may change or impact the organization.
* Apply analysis to identify trends and predict future issues to effectively implements courses of action.
