Job Description

The Senior Director, New Products will have a key role in contributing to Shire HGT's growth by staying ahead of market dynamics to anticipate commercial opportunities and threats to HGT's current and future business in light of evolution of the global healthcare market, competitor activity and related technology developments. He/she will identify strategic growth areas and provide commercial insight for development of new products by R&D and pursuit of in-licensing/M&A assets by Business Development while being attentive to the needs of the commercial franchise teams for future marketed products. This highly collaborative role will ensure that HGT maximizes the value of new products, thoroughly assesses and accurately values product licensing/acquisition candidates and pursues new business opportunities that deliver significant value and return on investment. Success in this role will require the individual to establish strong relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues in virtually every function, business unit and geographic location in the company.

Key responsibilities:

- Leads the commercial assessment and selection process for therapeutic areas of interest for HGT
- Collaborates effectively with R&D and Business Development to clearly articulate the 'value story' on new product opportunities, helping to identify, develop and acquire new product opportunities that are a good strategic fit with HGT's business strategy
- Provides marketing input to R&D and Program Management on new products that are not yet assigned to a Franchise

Essential Functions

New Product Development
- Defines the commercial potential and shapes the commercial requirements for new products in development, working closely with Program Executives and Franchise Leaders to define target product profiles
- Provides commercial / competitor/ product development thought leadership and direction to drive the formulation of product and disease area strategy in conjunction with franchise teams & Program Management to ensure that maximum commercial return and competitive advantage is leveraged from the development and commercialization of products and related investments
- Leads the effort for transparent valuation of disease area assets and investment options required for resource allocation and project progression decisions
- Works closely with and supports Program Executives with respect to the Long Range Planning Process

New Therapeutic Areas
- Evaluates and recommends new therapeutic/disease areas for HGT to expand into with input from R&D, Business Development and Business Insights
- Provides strategic direction to key decision making groups to influence selection of investment options likely to result in maximum commercial value for HGT
- Identifies product or therapy area strategic issues for resolution within the matrix and ensures senior management alignment with recommended solutions and go/no-go decisions
- Maintains current thought leadership from a commercial/marketing standpoint on therapeutic areas of interest and consistently seeks a 'futurist' outlook on market trends, technology developments and potential strategic areas of growth for the business

Business Development
- Leads the commercial assessment of all Quick Fit projects
- Partners with BD to recommend to Portfolio Steering Team (PORT) which opportunities to move forward to key progression decisions
- Fully understands and supports the BD process
- Leads commercial due diligence activities on BD projects and provides transparent valuation of BD assets under consideration, collaborating and partnering effectively with cross-functional groups involved in the BD process

Education & Experience Requirements

- MBA or equivalent experience required
- Advance degree (Ph.D. or M.D
