DescriptionDo you persistently follow the news cycle? Do you get a thrill from making stories go viral? When breaking news happens, do you jump into action and make sure no stone is left unturned? Does political news excite you?

If so, Rare is looking for you. We are seeking an experienced news editor to help drive our day-to-day coverage and contribute to our growing portfolio of original content.

Write and report daily news
Manage a small team of writers
Coordinate with other writers and social team for distribution, making assignments when appropriate
Create coverage plans, both short term and long term
Direct political news and coverage; manage a small team of writers; coach them on writing, style, story framing and
Work with social team for distribution

2-3 years experience as a story editor, line editor and headline writer is preferred.
Knowledge of AP style
A knack of digital news and social distribution; demonstrated ability to creatively tell the news stories and drive social engagement
Experience writing breaking news, and coordinating breaking news coverage
Demonstrated news judgment with the ability to lead, rather than follow, the day s headlines. Knack for seeing tomorrow s big story today and experience creating or identifying content with viral appeal.
Keen sense of standard media biases and tropes and a passion for dissecting and dismantling partisan talking points.
An independent spirit that thrives in a startup environment, can make decisions quickly and can handle several tasks at once.
On-air television and/or radio experience is a plus.
Willing to work nights, and partial weekends
