JOB DESCRIPTIONESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Work within a multidisciplinary development team to provide optical design and manufacturing solutions to customer specifications. These include traditional optical components, modules and systems (lasers, optical receivers, modulators, transceivers, ROSA/TOSA components, amplifiers, etc.). Define and manage as needed project activities to meet end deliverables.
Define design concepts and select key optical and microelectronic technologies that align with project requirements.
Select and characterize active and passive optical components for high speed optoelectronic design.
Optical modeling including free space, guided optical propagation, and optical system performance.
Design optical components, interconnections and packaging, integrating elements of optical and RF/electrical design, mechanical, thermal, reliability, assembly and test.
Support optical process development for NPI/manufacturing, including custom alignment equipment.
Support prototype builds and verification.
Generate product documentation including design specifications, custom part drawings, assembly drawings, engineering Bill of Materials, common feature drawings and process flows.
Define specifications/requirements for outsourced custom components and coordinate/interface with manufacturers/suppliers.
Perform engineering product verification to ensure compliance to requirements.
Support new business development by interfacing with new customers, defining proposals and quotations.
Support product transition into manufacturing and provide support needed to members of the production team.
Some travel may be required.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Relevant engineering degree with relevant years of experience
Minimum 8 years of experience.
Experience in design of a diverse array of optical elements, modules and sub-systems.
Expertise in optical and microelectronic technologies, materials, components, assembly processes.
Experience in end-to-end product development and manufacturing implementation.
Experience with latest optical design and modeling tools and techniques.
Strong project management skills.
Ability to travel worldwide including US and Canada.
Minimum Skills and Abilities:
Need to be customer delivery focused, with strong communication skills, and able to work well within a multidisciplinary product development team in a fast-paced challenging environment.
Must possess leadership skills, broad technical knowledge and project management skills to drive and lead complex multidisciplinary technical projects.
Must possess motivation and initiative to drive projects and tasks to closure.
Must be able to make decisions based on inputs from multidisciplinary team.
Works well with diverse geographical teams.
Experience with Micro-optic and Microelectronic technologies
