Description:
This position has the two location options: NRF (Idaho
Falls) or BETTIS (West Mifflin)
The Naval Reactors Facility (NRF) is seeking engineers
for a Department of Energy(DOE) Major Construction
Project (MCP) to replace aging infrastructure for spent
nuclear fuel handling. The successful candidate will
participate as members of design teams responsible for
technical requirements input and reviews for the
preliminary through final design of facility systems in
a new spent fuel handling facility. This project is
currently beginning the preliminary design phase.
Essential duties for a Senior Engineer include:
* Delegated broad engineering responsibility for all
aspects of assigned tasks with limited direction.
* Interface with other program organizations to
accomplish objectives.
* Provide technical support and oversight for field
operations.
* Team with other engineers performing related phases
of the technical work to ensure integration of
activities and plans.
* Apply knowledge of NAVSEA requirements to work
assignments.
* Participate in standard technical committees.
* Provide proactive leadership for are of cognizance
to address legacy issues, develop process
improvements, or maintain historical knowledge.
* Perform work planning to accomplish major projects
to meet project and scheduler requirements. Align
resources, identify risks, prepare mitigation plans
to meet major milestones.
* Prepare cost and schedule estimates, and performance
measures.
* Communicate status on a periodic basis to customer
and senior management.
* Perform analytical evaluations which may include the
development and application of complex computer
models.
* Apply system knowledge to apply technical and
operational problem solving.
* Prepare and support coordination of revisions to
technical manuals. Issue technical reports and
recommendations.
* Ensure documentation is in accordance with NR
Program quality standards.
* Initiate, design, develop, and support the execution
and implementation of engineering research and
design projects.
* Understand and implement the BMPC engineering
policies and procedures in area of cognizance.
* Obtain and retain necessary qualifications to
perform assigned duties.
Specific duties may also include:
* Development of safety analysis and technical safety
requirements for facility, facility systems, and
infrastructure design.
* Technical oversight of subcontracted architect
engineering work efforts as pertaining to safety.
* Technical oversight of subcontracted construction
management work efforts as pertaining to safety.
* Technical oversight of construction documentation
during construction activities as pertaining to
safety.
* Issuance of technical submittals to the customer.
Requirements:
Senior:
BS degree in Engineering, Science, or other technical
field from an accredited college or university and a
minimum of six years of relevant experience; or
MS degree in Engineering, Science, or other technical
field from an accredited college or university and a
minimum of four years of relevant experience.
Principal:
BS degree in Engineering, Science, or other technical
field from an accredited college or university and a
minimum of nine years of relevant experience; or
MS degree in Engineering, Science, or other technical
field from an accredited college or university and a
minimum of seven years of relevant experience.
