JOB DESCRIPTIONSPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Gilead Sciences is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Associate with expertise in virology and immunology to join the Discovery Virology group. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary drug discovery team for novel treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection.
Major responsibilities will include isolation of primary immune cells, conducting HBV infection studies in primary human hepatocytes, developing new assays for target identification and validation and performing compound testing. The candidate will work closely with senior personnel as well as independently to conduct biological studies in cell-based systems, using a variety of molecular, biochemical and immunological techniques.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB FUNCTIONS
Plans and executes assigned experiments that support research activities and project goals.
Selects appropriate methods and techniques in performing experiments.
Collaborates with supervisory personnel to develop research methods.
Recommends alternatives, researches new methods and techniques and proactively seeks out others to discuss potential solutions to problems.
Participates in group meetings. Presents results of work, interprets data, and draws conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work.
Uses good verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to provide insight into the processes used to achieve results of assigned tasks.
Recognize anomalous and inconsistent results and interpret experimental outcomes.
Develops skills in data analysis and ability to evaluate quality of data.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
2+ years of experience with BS degree in a related scientific discipline.
MS degree in related scientific discipline with no industry experience.
Background in virology and/or immunology preferred but not essential.
Experience with cell-based assays, qPCR, and Luminex is preferred.
