Job Summary:

This position is for a high level individual contributor with demonstrated architecture and leadership abilities, in the storage server platform hardware development organization. The candidate will define, specify, design, develop, verify, and deliver world-class storage servers to production, and will help support the products through their product life. The candidate will be responsible for design leadership of Storage platforms and platform families, and will be leading internal teams or development partners, as well as providing individual contribution to product development. The candidate's initial focus is on microprocessor based servers, but long-term growth opportunities may include products throughout the entire NetApp product line, with opportunity for both technical and leadership growth throughout your career.

Essential Functions:

This candidate will participate in or lead a technical team that develops new Storage Server products and will take responsibility for all phases of product development including architecture, documentation, design, prototyping, validation, and support. This candidate will work with product marketing, software development, manufacturing, customer support and external vendors, in a project team environment to accomplish product definition and delivery.
In addition to delivering product, This candidate will track technology trends and contribute to setting technical direction, as well as helping the development and marketing organizations to ensure that NetApp has the proper product portfolio to stay competitive and keep customers satisfied. This candidate will contribute to the implementation and application of design processes.
In addition the candidate will act as a technical advisor and resource to other engineers and across functions. This individual will be responsible for evaluating, defining and prioritizing projects.Job RequirementsRequirements:

- Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
- Experience in leading hardware design and development.
- A strong understanding of complex concepts related to architecture, design engineering, reliability, prototyping and failure analysis.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of engineers to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards.
- Ability to develop longer-range project plans and schedules for complex projects or new product development.

- This individual will apply broad expertise or unique technical/industry knowledge in solving problems that are unique and extremely complex given time, budget and resource constraints.

Interaction:

- This individual must work effectively with staff to vice-president level employees within the function, across functions and with external parties.
- Limited supervision is provided, as this individual can operate, drive results, and set priorities independently.
- The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor and subject matter expert.
- To be successful, this individual must demonstrate favorable results through leadership and influencing multiple individuals and groups.
- May provide guidance, mentor or supervise the activities more junior engineers.Education and ExperienceEducation & Experience:

- Minimum of 8 years experience is required, 10 to 12 years of experience is preferred.
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or a PhD; or equivalent experience is required.
- Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects.
