JOB DESCRIPTIONJob Title: SVP, Strategy and Business Development, HMH Reports To: EVP, Chief Strategy Officer **PLEASE NOTE: This posiiton is part of Hackensack/Meridian Health Network and will be located in Edison, NJ,** Position s Direct Reports: VP, Strategic Development (Dual report to the EVP, Chief Integration Officer) VP, Affiliation Activation VP, Service Line Integration Director of Growth Network Director of Planning and Market Analytics Network Director of Business Development and Service Lines (2) Executive Secretary (shared) Position Summary: Reporting to the EVP, Chief Strategy Officer supports the network in choosing, prioritizing and implementing key growth initiatives. Supports the network-wide annual and long-range strategic planning and goal development. Leads the business development activities for the organization to include the analysis and execution of plans for growing the base of business and overall market share for the organization. Assists the Hackensack University Health Network leadership in identifying and evaluating new business opportunities, placement of facilities and services, new markets, new products/services and potential merger, acquisition, or affiliation opportunities that are consistent with the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the network . Key Position Responsibilities Strategic Growth and Implementation Supports the network in choosing, prioritizing and implementing key growth initiatives. Prioritizes requests for growth of network business while considering operational impact. Drives the development of business plans for new and existing products and services, as they relate to the network strategic plan. Works with internal customers to prioritize the network s resources among competing demands. Organizes primary and secondary research and data collection to support business growth and development . Incorporate financial analysis into the business-planning process and incorporates quantitative discipline throughout the planning process. Identifies network opportunities throughout the service area by working with partnership members to develop strategies focused on referring physicians, the general community, and its physician members. Collaborates and partners with the leaders of the Patient Transfer Center to increase the requests and facilitate the acceptance of patient transfers from referring hospitals to HackensackUMC, and Patient Direct Connect physician referral system, taking advantage of HackensackUMC s superior customer service, patient satisfaction, clinical excellence and specialty medical staff. Becomes an integral member of the team and establish personal and professional credibility throughout the System. Demonstrates an understanding of the mission and values of the System and ensure integration with prudent business principles and actions. Guides and facilitates a strategic visioning process and development of a system-wide strategic plan that is easily understood, capable of being followed, practical, and measurable, and is developed with input from within the system. Analyzes strategic areas measuring opportunities and risks and stimulate discussion related to analysis recommendation as well as facilitate business development opportunities. Provides the impetus for communicating and implementing the strategic plan. Pursue external partnering opportunities that relate to strategic plan goals and objectives. Identifies, clarifies, and develops business strengths and opportunities. Develops a mechanism to evaluate all programs and services regarding current success and future potential including the desirability and/or necessity of continuing such programs and services. Assists in determining the business direction and future business growth of the system utilizing product line data, concentrating on areas for strategic program development. Produces dependable and accurate quantitative and qualitative information to drive business decisions. Continue to build and develop the data information management area that supports competitive analyses. Continues to elevate the level of strategic thinking in the organization and partner with the CSO in engaging with operating leaders in support of the overall planning and business development activities. Evaluates new business opportunities, physician alignment strategy, new products and services, and merger, acquisition, or affiliation opportunities. Monitors changes in policies and attitudes of regulators and agencies to assess potential impact on organizational goals. Undertakes special studies as requested by the EVP, Chief Strategy Officer. Strategic Planning & Development Supports the network-wide annual and long-range strategic planning and goal development. Evaluates and reports on the organization s progress in reaching planned objectives. Communicates the Hackensack University Health Network vision and strategy and progress toward goals to all appropriate stakeholders. Seeks new opportunities for the organization and evaluates longer-term business obstacles. Anticipates the evolution of customer needs/demands and monitors strategies and objectives of competitors. Provides strategic planning, counsel and work products that ensure near and longer-term strategic planning structure and process for the health network and hospitals. Ensures credible and current access to strategic market intelligence relative to competitors. Continues to assess and refine the strategy for healthcare reform. Stays on top of national trends that affect the provision of service, expectations of quality, and financial performance. Develops a planning function and capability within HUHN that furthers the organization's vision, strategy, and direction. Directs all planning activities such that strategies, structures and appropriate operational models support the mission and vision of the system. Educates others in the organization to the value of using disciplined planning, application of relevant trends, environmental and competitive assessments, benchmarking against best practices and other planning related tools and processes. Provides counsel and support to institutional senior management and physician leadership as the System planning and strategies evolve thereby contributing to the enhanced health of the communities involved. In partnership with CSO, collaborates with internal and external stakeholders by facilitating large and small groups to identify areas of enhancement in the current strategic planning process. Business Development: Leads the business development activities for the organization to include the analysis and execution of plans for growing the base of business and overall market share for the organization. Assist vice presidents and directors in identifying and evaluating new business opportunities, placement of facilities and services, new markets, new products/services and potential merger, acquisition, or affiliation opportunities that are consistent with the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the network. Assists in evaluating the performance of existing programs and services against business objectives especially growth and profitability. Further, provide support for finding and implementing solutions. Partners with Marketing and Public Relations to grow existing service lines. Lead the development activities for growing the base of business and market share for the overall organization. Partners with Finance to create comprehensive business plans consistent with system strategy and metrics to evaluate the plans at pre-established intervals.
