JOB DESCRIPTION

The Shift Manager controls the daily shift operation of our transportation contract within a large volume distribution center, in compliance with the policies of the contracting agency and in conformance with company procedures. The Shift Manager holds overall responsibility for system performance in all functions of operation. This manager needs to be a motivating leader with the ability to both set and achieve data-driven goals.

Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures, and state, federal and local laws.
*

Assures optimum performance of the distribution center, including warehouse management activities, transportation coordination, new business development and personnel management.
*

Confers and cooperates with other management personnel in formulating and implementing administrative and operational policies and procedures designed to optimize service levels and profit.
*

Jointly identifies and solves customer service issues with other divisions.
*

Confers with Human Resources to address performance failures.
*

Effectively and efficiently manages the shipping, receiving, cross-docking, picking/packing, kitting, and putting away activities.
*

Uses information technology to manage distribution operations.
*

Uses (SAP) to manage domestic transport, including load profiling, tendering, invoicing and tracking of inbound and outbound freight.
*

May use radio frequency and bar coding devices.
*

Plans and controls staff activities in all areas of the distribution center.
*

Directs investigations into causes of customer complaints and responds accordingly.
*

Ensures compliance with all Company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.
*

Interfaces with regional and district staff in formulating short and long-term goals consistent with the company's financial and operational objectives.
*

Exemplifies and upholds company ethics and environmental, operating, regulatory, safety and accounting policies and standards.
*

Communicates company objectives and philosophies to employees. Ensures positive morale of division employees.
*

Ensures appropriate staffing levels and expertise, and oversees hiring, training and performance management of business unit employees.
*

Interacts with division staff on current operations. Assists staff with their needs, resolves concerns and difficulties, conducts routine site inspections.
*

Improves and maintains communications, timeliness and accuracy of reporting and collection of data from divisions within the business unit.
*

Oversees and maintains an effective accident prevention program, ensures all reasonable actions are taken to prevent accidents or injuries, and ensures a safe and productive work environment for all employees.
*

Interacts professionally and courteously with customers, vendors, members of the community and municipal and other government employees.
*

Performs other job-related duties as assigned

_REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:_

*

Substantial experience in the operation phases of a transit organization is essential. Must have the ability to recruit and develop staff to deliver reliable service product.
*

Must work effectively with employees and have leadership characteristics.
*

Must have superior time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
*

Automotive experience preferred

_PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:_

*

Incumbents in this position are subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, pushing and pulling, stooping and crouching, climbing and walking, and occasional lifting up to 35 lbs.
*

Incumbents may be exposed to weather and temperature extremes.
*

Work is performed in a warehousing environment.

_MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:_

*

HS Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degreepreferred 5-10years of previous experience as a manager in a warehousing or distribution center environment, or at least 5years of satisfactory performance in a management position.
