Functions as a member of the assessment team and accepts responsibilities for specifically assigned duties, such as patient observation rounds, and suicide risk observation. The HCAT Specialist contributes to the patient care function by performing clerical duties and other administrative support functions. Participates in performance improvement activities to improve patient safety and quality of care. Maintains cultural and diversity awareness when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers. Promotes a upportive, team-work oriented environment. Fulfills departmental responsibilities consistent with the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of Bayshore Medical Center / East Houston Regional Medical Center.
INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS:
Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other clinical disciplines in making decisions regarding patient care. Works with professional and non-professional employees of the hospital and with physicians, patients, and their families.
License / Certifications / Requirements:
Current CPI certification required. Applicants without CPI certification may be considered but must obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
BA or BS in a related field or comparable direct experience (6-8 years).
Minimum of 1 year recent related experience as a mental health tech or nurse tech in an inpatient Psychiatric Hospital Setting.
Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another; must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions. Successful completion of hospital, and program specific orientation. Effective oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with computer technology. Ability to work well with others in a team environment to ensure quality patient care. Strong problem solving and customer service skills. Able to read, write, speak and comprehend English. Will be required to work weekdays, weekends and holidays.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Position requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during various tasks/activities. PPE includes, but is not limited to, back support belts, gloves, masks, and safety glasses.
