Software Engineer - QA

Software Engineer - QA (Akamai Technologies, Inc.; San Mateo, California) Will validate the quality of the software components, design tools and develop Perl modules for verification; a creative thinker with advanced technical expertise in UNIX/Linux operating systems and HTTP, DNS and TCP/IP technologies as well as proxy servers, web servers and streaming technologies including RTMP, HLS, and HDS; responsible for validation and verification of Media and CDN service offerings to provide robust and scalable e-business infrastructure and cost effectiveness for global customer base at the enterprise level. Implement in-depth understanding of QA life-cycle from functional requirements gathering to the design and execution of automated, manual and system level tests. Responsibilities include: Develop creative, competent analyses to identify root causes of technical problems and develop resolutions; Perform manual and automated functional verification as well as large-scale system tests; Responsible for the development of benchmarking tools and measurement of performance of components by understanding of performance measurement and benchmarking experience; Create, enhance and maintain automated build and unit/regression test infrastructures, write Perl modules for functional testing, and utilize C/C++, Unix shell scripting with UNIX/Linux environment; Utilize knowledge of HTTP, TCP/IP protocol stack and DNS protocols and RTMP, HLS, and HDS technologies to perform manual and automated test in a large-scale Internet Streaming test network; Review bug descriptions, functional requirements, design documents and code, working closely with developers to design test criteria and develop test plans, and ensure proper documentation of work; Responsible for mentoring and training other team members; Debugging HD Streaming and application issues using C/C++ and scripting languages; Work well with a team using excellent oral and written communication skills; Evaluate multiple applications/releases with an emphasis on networking, and Streaming applications; Apply problem solving skills and technical troubleshooting with an emphasis on verification engineering and the software product life cycle.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related equivalent degree, plus two years of relevant experience.

Experience must include: Ability to analyze and evaluate multiple applications/releases with an emphasis on networking, and Streaming applications; Solid understanding of performance measurement and benchmarking experience; Technical expertise working with UNIX/Linux environment; Solid understanding and working knowledge of HTTP, DNS TCP/IP protocol stack; Understanding of Streaming technology including RTMP, HLS, and HDS; Ability to program and debug using C/C++ and scripting languages; Expertise in problem solving and technical troubleshooting with an emphasis on verification engineering and the software product life cycle; and Proven skills in oral and written communication.
