Title: Software Quality Engineer (SQE)

Position Summary

A Software Quality Engineer (SQE) is needed to define, maintain and perform software quality assurance (SQA) activities for Tapestry Solutions Mission Planning Systems (MPS) Division. Mission planning software is a graphic-intensive desktop Geographic Information System (GIS) used to develop routes and weapons employment initialization for military aircraft prior to mission execution. Our software is developed in a Capability Maturity Model Index (CMMI) Level 3 environment using a combination Agile/Waterfall approach to support US Navy, US Air Force, US Marine Corps and International customers with Mission Planning solutions. The successful candidate achieves quality assurance operational objectives by training, appraising and identifying/resolving problems; participating in Peer Reviews; completing Audits; determining improvements and implementing change. The successful applicant will be comfortable working independently and as part of multiple development teams to ensure quality products are delivered to the warfighter.

Essential Functions:

Perform Software Quality Program Planning

Support proposal efforts and ensure SQE program funding is obtained.

Participate in new project software development planning.

Coordinate SQE activities within each of the MPS programs.

Maintain the MPS Software Quality Plan.

Generate SQE program schedule.

Perform Software Process Audits

Plan and schedule Audits.

Conduct Audits.

Report results and coordinate resolution of findings.

Perform MPS Software Product Evaluations alone and as part of Peer Reviews

Identify products for evaluation.

Establish evaluation criteria.

Evaluate products.

Provide direct feedback and coaching to developers participating in Peer Reviews.

Report results and coordinate resolution of findings.

Manage Supplier Software Quality

Provide input to program specific software quality requirements for flow down to suppliers.

Verify acceptability of supplier's software quality systems and programs.

Perform software acceptance and delivery activities for low risk procurements.

Identify non-conformances and issues corrective actions.

Support Formal Qualification Test (FQT) Activities

Monitor/witness testing as required.

Sign/stamp test results as required.

Evaluate test reports.

Verify test results.

Support Software Configuration Management

Participate in baseline approval/change authorization process.

Verify software master media as required.

Support delivery activities as required.

Support customer milestone reviews and present Software Quality information as required.

Work closely with the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) and other government representatives on Software Quality issues.

Work with Process Improvement personnel in conducting training with respect to quality processes and CMMI.

Typical Education and/ or Experience Qualifications:

Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

* 3+ years of software development experience.

* Experience and involvement in continuous process and performance improvement.

* Experience participating directly in software Peer Reviews.

* Experience working in CMMI-3 or greater organizations.

* Proficiency with Microsoft Visual Studio and Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).

Preferred Experience for this position:

* Experience performing Software Quality Assurance (SQA) activities.

* Experience with Agile Scrum and XP methodologies.

* Experience with Waterfall software development lifecycle processes.

* Experience with Earned Value Managment (EVM) processes.

* Experience developing and/or integrating with military aircraft or subsystem software, avionics, sensors or weapons products.
