The Solution Architect for Virtual Payments Tech will report to the Vice President of Virtual Payments Tech, and is responsible for defining the global technical strategy for the organization that will enable the near-term and long-term business objectives of the Virtual Payment business. This strategy will also need to align to the WEX enterprise goals and objectives, and will be a close partner with our enterprise architecture team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Establishing and maintaining architectural standards for the Virtual Payments Tech organization, in partnership with leaders across the delivery teams.
Establishing architectural principles and practices to create a repeatable design process (Application, Solution & Software) to enable strong design and engineering practices.
Define and maintain the overall technical strategy, direction, and roadmap for the Virtual Payments Tech organization
Create a technical roadmap to enable the longer term vision for our products
During M&A activities, perform technical assessments of the target company to determine technical fit into the organization and our strategy
Drive / perform technology assessments, including detailed option analysis and justifications
During delivery, perform solution architecture designs and maintain evergreen documents
Identify driving non-functional requirements, including gaps or alignments that drive requirement activities.
Mentor engineering teams through formal and informal discussions, design reviews, technical presentations or as a consultant across virtual business portfolio.
Cultivate a reputation for being an engineers engineer with hands-on level design and writing code.

10 years of designing and developing business applications
5 years of direct enterprise, solution, or application architecture experience
5 years of java development experience
Experience presenting to all levels of the organization, including senior executives to both inform and influence
Experience leading teams
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or other related disciplines. Equivalent work experience and education is acceptable
Experience assessing technologies and providing recommendations / justifications
Experience with private / public cloud technologies, and other datacenter technologies
Experience designing and building APIs (RESTful & SOAP)
Experience designing client facing products
10 years of enterprise, solution and/or software architecture
5 years of payments, financial services, or related experience
5 years of managing technical teams
5 years of java development experience
Masters Degree in Computer Science, MBA or related disciplines
Experience formulating and defining technology strategy for an enterprise or line of business
Experience building business cases
Experience leveraging technology to optimize operational processes, increasing efficiency
